"The “bridge” at BT’s NHS Network Service Operations Centre comprised of several operational
teams, across the different environments, technologies and disciplines required to support the CfH
project. Consequently, with it being a challenge to apply any kind of coherent hierarchal
management structure, there was a great deal of emphasis placed on the role of the Service
Manager. Mike clearly excelled in this environment. Showing great leadership, he co-ordinated
support efforts from the various support groups including Firewall, SAN, Unix and Microsoft server
teams - bringing them to bear effectively on any service issues, in a structured and process-driven
manner. At the same time Mike would seemingly effortlessly oversee the change management for
the shift –the operational CfH changes were often in excess of 40 per night. Mike was always the
